Me and Geo headed up to Aberfeldy for the first ride in our Scotland’s Highest Roads Challenge. A tough 72miles taking in three of roads from the list – Glen Cochill (25), head of Glen Quaich (7) and Lochan na Lairige (5).

It was a tough start heading out of Aberfeldy and straight up Glen Cochill. From there it was a nice ride through Glen Quaich until we saw the road up the hill appear in the distance. It looked nasty from a distance and it didn’t disappoint with an average gradient of 10% and a max of 30%! Ouch!! I’m definitely going to need a lower gear.
A reasonable descent down to Kenmore and then along the side of Loch Tay to Killin. A typical up and down lochside road full of pot holes and covered in shit from logging lorries. A quick stop at the Killin Hotel for soup and beer and then onwards and upwards up Ben Lawers to the main event of Lochan na Lairige. A long drag uphill, thankfully not as steep as the Glen Quaich road, followed by an excellent descent down into Glen Lyon and a fabulous 20 mile gradual descent all the way back to Aberfeldy.
And there we have it… the first three roads ticked off from the list. A tough but rewarding day in the saddle

Baltic! All sorts of issues with my speed sensor… 62.1mph? 226rpm?? I don’t think so!!!
Issues aside… this was the first decent ride out of the year. Myself and Geo braved the Arctic weather conditions to head out around the south side of Glasgow taking in a little pit stop at the Millhouse in Stewarton for a wee winter warmer
