Day 2 - The Hangover

March 19th, 2008

No commute today, I decided to have a hangover instead. It turns out drinking Chocolate Stout all night isn’t such a good idea on a school night. However, it was worth it as the band I went to see in Blackfriars last night were rather excellent. The Bottleneckers play some mean 50s rock n roll!

  • Weigh in: 14st 11lb
  • Breakfast: hangover
  • Lunch: BLT sandwich
  • Dinner: pasta with tomato & chilli sauce

This evening (suitably hangover free) I went out for this year’s first attempt at my old training route.

Amazingly it felt rather good considering I’d barely been on a bike in the last 4 months. The terrain was hillier than I remember, it was a tad windy in places and cycling in the dark isn’t so good with the state of the Glasgow roads (plenty of pot-holes to keep you on your toes!). I wasn’t exactly pushing it, just a nice easy ride to lay a bench mark and to assess just how out of shape I’d got in the last 4 months.

  • Distance: 17 miles
  • Time: 1hr 30mins
  • Avg. Speed: 11.3 mph

Not bad considering. Things were starting to hurt as I got to the last couple of miles, but it’s a good kind of hurt. All in all a successful run for my first time out this year and I’m confident that it wont take long for the times to start coming down and the distances to start increasing.

The Hangover… this will be a recurring title I reckon
