The incoherent ramblings of an overweight cyclist.

Back on the bike

March 17th, 2008

At last! I managed to get out on my bike today for the first time this year. I didn’t go far, just to work and back, but it’s a start. The bad news is that I weighed myself this morning and didn’t like what I saw! Needless to say I’ve managed to get rather out of shape during the off season and tipping the scales at 15st, I’ve got a long way to go to get back in to shape and ready to get some serious miles in.

With plans afoot to do a 5 day cycle trip from Glasgow to John O’Groats in August, coming in at 320+ miles I’ve got a long way to go before I’ll be ready for it! So I plan on using this blog to set myself some targets and record my progress.

I’ll state some simple targets to start with which I’ll flesh out in the coming days.

  • Target Weight: under 13st
  • Target Day Mileage: 60 miles at 15mph

As a little incentive to help me along the way, if I manage to hit my targets by the end of June then I plan on buying myself a shiny new road bike :) Possibly the new Kona Kapu unless something else takes my fancy along the way.

That’s a rather nice bike. Lovely paint job. I would normally think Trek, Felt, Bianchi etc for a road bike, but that’s smart.

    What’s the best price?

It is rather nice but it’s not cheap. I haven’t seen it any cheaper than £1500 in the UK.
